What you can do to help – We are committed to protecting your privacy. You can help by following these simple guidelines:

  • Protect your account numbers, card numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers) and passwords. Never keep your PIN with your debit or credit card or even in the proximity, which can provide free access to your accounts if your card is lost or stolen.
  • Use caution when disclosing your account numbers, social security numbers, etc. to other persons. If someone calls you, explains the call is on behalf of the Credit Union and asks for your account number, you should immediately beware that this could be a fraud. Official Credit Union staff will have access to your information and will not need to ask for it. Also, you should initiate any such call to the Credit Union.
  • If you receive an email asking you to verify your account number online, this is a scam designed to get you to disclose your confidential information. The Credit Union will not email you Internet hot links to access your accounts. Always go directly to the Credit Union home page to access your accounts.
  • Keep your information current. It is important that we have current information on how to reach you. If we detect potentially fraudulent or unauthorized activity or use of any account, we will attempt to contact you immediately. If your address or phone number changes, please let us know as soon as possible. Do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions. We are here to serve you. How to opt-out or stop certain disclosures about you – If you prefer that we do not disclose nonpublic personal information about you to nonaffiliated third parties, you may opt-out of those disclosures, that is, you may direct us not to make those disclosures (other than disclosures permitted by law). If you have a joint account (other than a loan) with someone else, either of you may opt-out or it will be effective for both parties.

You may opt-out of these disclosures at any time. This opt-out, by law, will only apply to disclosures that are legally permitted or to disclosures we make to companies that perform services on our behalf or to other financial service providers. Once we receive your request, we have a reasonable amount of time to stop the disclosures. You may always contact us for assistance if you wish to later revoke your opt-out election. To exercise your opt-out option, complete our Privacy Opt-Out form, sign and date, and return it to us.

Children’s Online Privacy
SECU does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that such personal information was collected, we will delete it; and if a parent becomes aware that personal information was submitted by a child under 13 without their consent, he/she may request that we delete that information.

Security
SECU has internal policies and procedures that protect our members’ financial and personal information. All necessary precautions are taken to ensure your accounts are safe online using 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology. This is the most trusted method of securing Internet transactions.

However, information security requires teamwork. For your protection a password or PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required to access your account(s) electronically. We recommend that you memorize the password and/or PIN and keep it private from any other person's access. When entering your password online, encryption makes your transmission undecipherable in the process. To ensure the highest degree of encryption, we recommend that you maintain a current browser compatible with our online systems and a personal computer free of viruses and/or spyware.

Generally e-mail is not secure unless secured within an encrypted attachment or transmission environment. Providing personal information beyond your name, address, e-mail address and phone number is not recommended unless it is sent using a secure (SSL encrypted) e-mail form. Use our Net24 Internet Banking "Contact Us" link for secure transmission of information. Make sure that you are logged into the system first using your UserID and Password before selecting the "Contact Us" link. Our Net24 Internet Banking is registered with Thawte Consulting Ltd., our registered Security Authority provider for the summit-ol.com domain.

If you require additional detail, please visit our Security site. If you have further questions about the safekeeping of your personal information, feel free to Contact Us.

Electronic Signatures
Many of our services now offer you the ability to digitally sign either online or at the point of transaction. Your digital signature is equivalent to your physical signature on all contracts, teller transactions, and any other official SECU documents. Your digital signature only extends to the document presented at the time of e-Signing. All e-Signed documents will be handled securely, maintaining the privacy of your personal information. SECU is compliant with all requirements of the E-Sign Act endorsed by the National Credit Union Administration.
