• Credit Check: www.AnnualCreditReport.com offers one FREE credit report per year (FICO score is optional). You may also call 877-322-8228, or write Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281 for your FREE report. Although you may request all 3 bureaus at once, you may want to space out your requests to better evaluate for identity theft purposes. Not all credit bureaus collect the same information.
• Credit Freeze: To prevent credit related identity theft, for a fee you may now choose to freeze access to your credit at each of the credit bureaus. ConsumerUnion.org provides detailed instructions. Note: Credit freeze is now available in most states (including Texas), without having to first go through an identity theft incident. Unfreezing your credit on a temporary or permanent basis may take several days processing at each credit bureau and will cost an additional fee.
• Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) related: When you pull your Credit Report, there is a dispute form on the back which allows you to direct your dispute back to the Credit Reporting Agency (CRA). The CRA must investigate and present a valid reason within 30 days or remove it from your file.
